hello to all.
i just read the post by lightmylife4him or something similar and everyone's reactions and i have to tell you that i am SURE it wasnt a joke. i am very familiar with these types of "christians" since i live in the midwest (cincinnati) and unfortunately i married into a family like this who is constantly trying to convert me. i happen to homeschool my children like lightmylife4him and it is REALLY DIFFICULT to find any homeschooling friends for my kids that arent way too deep into the christianity. these people may be called "fundies". i just wanted to let you know that it was for real and that is just one of the many reasons why i am moving to florida soon. i am incredibly bored here and CANT WAIT FOR THE DIVERSITY OF FL. also, when i read lightmylife4him's post, the very first thing that came to my mind was the sexual themed billboards ive seen so much of in florida and i certainly didnt think that lightmylife4him would appreciate her kids seeing those?
what is the deal with the billboards? i think they may advertise "adult" stores or something? i myself try not to look so i cant remember exactly. also, can any give any advice to me on how to get my fundie relatives to stop changing to change me into a fundie?

There are alot of conservatives in Florida. I'm not sure if (in your post) you were saying that you were moving here to get away from that. I kind of get the opposite impression being here. But it could relative. I'm originally from NY so anything outside of that is considered 'conservative' to me.

Care to share what part of Fla you're moving to?

I can't give you any advice on that, but if you are looking to move to Florida, I couldn't think of a bigger escape from the attitude that you speak of than Broward County. Anything goes in this place. Whether your a conservative Christan or an devout Bhuddist, nobody will bother you. This is Floridas most accepting county. Heck, its probably among the nations most accepting. People seem to kind of coexist amongst the VAST juxtaposition of cultures here.Problem with that is that its super crowded and expensive, and not exactly an optimal place to raise children, unless you locate in the even more expensive (but just as "I'm indifferent") communities in the western part of the county.

oh no, i am not narrow minded at all. i am looking forward to being around all types of people. hmmmm, does that make me narrow minded? hmmm, ive never been called narrow minded. i was referring to someone else's post about "conservative family towns" and there was quite a reaction to it (if youve read it), one of them (reactions) being that they thought it might be some type of joke or prank and i just wanted to let everyone know that i was sure it wasnt and that there really are a vast amount of people in the area that i live at least that do NOT want diversity. maybe you're saying im narrow minded cuz i dont like the sexual billboards? well, im just thinking of the children when it comes to that. i mean come on, they dont need to see such things. well, i didnt want to start an argument. i just wanted to let people know that may not be familiar with certain groups of people that this kind of thinking does indeed exist.

if I remember correctly, the poster was looking for a whites only area--I guess that's what conservative family town is code for

I think only four counties in Florida were considered 'blue' in the last general election..Broward, Palm Beach, Orange and Volusia.

I think I get Nicolepsy's point. Basically Im sure she respects religion , just dont push it on everyone , ram it down their throats & try to convert everyone to it.
As far as the conservative Florida city ... well we live in Palm beach County , married & raising our kids ... by the way when I say married I do mean a man & a woman.... we are pro choice , pro gay rights , pro gun control .. BUT ... are trying to conserve electric , conserve water , conserve gas ... hmmmmm ... what category do we fall under??

Sound like a social liberal, fiscal conservative (although I can't really tell, you only mentioned social aspects).

St. Lucie also voted Democratic, as did some smaller counties, Okeechobee, I believe. Port St. Lucie tends to be slightly more conservative but is outbalanced by Democrats in the rest of the county.
