Is there any truth to this statement? Like many people who happily call Florida home, I've found the people who complain the most about Florida are New Yorkers! What are your thoughts, feelings and experiences about this seemingly unhappy group of "locals"?

I'm one of those non-"locals" that you speak of from NY. I only find this thread mildly offensive. I love this area, and I happen to (somewhat) agree with that statement.

If it weren't for Northeasterners settling in Florida the so-called natives would still be barefoot.

Glad to meet your acquaintance Are you able to explain this phenomenon? It would seem that if Florida sucks so bad, leave. This obviously doesn't apply to every New Yorker since some, like yourself, love Florida and will say so. It's funny; I was in California (SoCal) and some New Yorkers complained about California too!

I might concure amidst my supressed laughter if I didn't think this statement would also offend somebody.

You see, what I think happens is a certain amount of misfits, whether they come from New York or any other city, tend to migrate en masse hoping they can fit somewhere else, then, these new transplants tend to blame their new geographical area for all of their problems. People don't realize that part of enjoying life is being content with where they live. I don't think this is an exclusive phenomenon to New Yorkers at all, but it happens to be the largest metro area in the U.S, and on the same coast.

I escaped New York largely to escape this culture. Although it certainly has followed me (look at my location, LOL!), I still enjoy being in a place where at least, for one, I am able to experience DIFFERENT cultures. I am a Floridian who moved from New York, not a transplanted New Yorker living in Florida, if you understand what I mean.

I don't think that's a totally true statement simply b/c I'm friends with several New Yorkers who moved to South Florida alone, yet they still complain about Florida regardless. It's seems like whether you come from New York "en masse" or alone, New York City socializes you to complain even if you're from Jersey. The only obvious difference I've noticed are in Upstate New Yorkers. They don't seem to complain as much.
