Hello everyone,

I am currently in Miami, Fl & finishing a double Masters in School Counseling/Counselor Education and Mental Health. My husband and I would love to move to Gainesville after I finish school. What is the job market like for school counselors? What options do I have? Are there similar jobs by other titles within nonpublic schools that i should look into? We are really set on Gainesville and I would prefer to work in a school- elementary or middle- and see clients as a therapist part time. If school counselor is a laughable dream there, how about for mental health therapists?

My husband is an audio engineer, a degree and 10 yrs experience, he is currently the in-house engineer for a lounge that has various live bands throughout the week but has also worked in a studio. How does that job market look?

Thank you!!

Most of the schools in the area are cutting their budgets and not filling empty positions. You can look on the website for the Alachua County School system and see if any are advertised. Mental health jobs are also being cut. Have you read the news lately? Sorry to be snippy, but someone with a masters degree should be able to do a search and find out this information for themselves.

Gainesville is mostly health and higher education. You will probably be competing directly with UF grads with the same education.
