Arm yourself. Each person in your party should carry a loaded sidearm. Tint your windows dark. Get your car armored and make sure it covers your tires so they don't get shot out. Make sure you have run-flats in case of stop strips. Have a CB radio to call for police help. Wear kevlar body vests. Carry a surgical kit in case someone gets shot and needs to have a bullet removed on the spot. Don't carry cash. Get a trained bodyguard to escort you, one with tactical firearms and weapons training, and who knows hand to hand combat maneuvers, and is a skilled getaway driver.

Your very life is at stake. Good luck as you make your way through the dangerous minefields of Sanford, Bradenton, and ...dare I say it? Southwest Florida...

Relax. You'll be fine. I'm guessing you're very young, right?

I don't understand why people are being so negative about other people. They see some stranger, especially those with a different skin color or wear differently, the first thing pop out of their mind is that person is going to hurt them. Chill man.

Most people are nice, if you say hi to them, they say hi back. Except if you live in NYC. NYer don't talk to others. If you say hi to them, they run away. I know, I live there for 20 years.

OK I am curious..... are you 17 years old? Are you male or female? Are you white or some other race? It just seems weird that you are so concerned about crime getting you on a brief roadtrip through Florida unless you are planning on selling or buying drugs from people you don't know along the way.
Where do you get your facts about crime? .....personally I think most crime in Florida actually involves family members, friends, or is drug related. and I have lived here for 35+ years without being raped, robbed, killed..... Sure there is random crime but really don't think it is more than other states.
So if ya like your travel partner, and don't plan on buying or selling drugs when you are traveling the non tourist areas of these towns. what do you have to worry about?

After reading some of the posts I have been chuckling to myself imagining little blue haired Florida grannies on the street corners with uzis just waiting for unsuspecting tourists. LOL Isn't that the other stereotype about Florida---too many old retired people making most places boring?

What are you going to be carrying in the car that you are so paranoid about losing?,
and what are you going to be doing in all these small towns as it doesnt sound like this trip is for pleasure.?
sounds like a delivery run to me.

That just reminded me about the couple that had an accident on I-95 yesterday....the lady was flown to hospital but the man refused to leave the car even though he was critically injured because they had over a million dollars of old coins in the car....He almost died along the highway until deputies assured him they would guard the car. Haven't heard how he is doing today.

So maybe there are more reasons than drugs for going into areas, but then it is usually tyo civic centers for shows etc. which generally have protection for the vendors etc.

Rather than watching so much news, and reading the news papers.
Why not do what the REAL tourists do and look for the Florida Attractions, and scenic places, to visit in that counties you and to travel. The trick is to stay vigelent, don't make yourself a target (it's not the 1950's) and go have a good time. Remember to lock the car and make sure you have a map with you in your travels. And you should be just fine.

Avoid driving on U.S. 301 through the towns of Lawtey or Waldo.
Well known speed traps, strickly enforced and identified as such by the AAA.
Avoid driving in any area where there is a street called 'Martin Luther King'.
