I have been living in Florida for 26 years. We came from Long Island when our children were small. I would never return to the North East! I love living in Florida! The beaches are some of the most beautiful in the country. We are only a short distance from the carribbean, and can hop a cruise ship at a minutes notice. The flowers bloom all year. How wonderful to see flowers blooming at Christmas. If you don't like Florida, I suggest you leave. Go back to the bear trees, ice, snow and cold depressing weather. Not to mention the high taxes, and dark depressing homes. You can keep it!

Yep, and some people don't understand why... The same as I do not understand why anyone would like the extreme heat and humidity?

The comment was related to "liking" taxes, high, low or otherwise. I've never heard someone say they "like" being taxed.

What are bear trees? Do bears climb them?

Bare trees bloom in the spring. You're embellishing.

And you have to book cruises in advance. By living in FL you can drive to the cruise ship as opposed to having to fly in.

But you still book in advance.

And there is more to life than the beach.

And there are places in this country besides the NE, FL is not the only state with a warmer climate. In fact there are states that offer much better weather.

FL is great in the winter, but very hot and miserable at least half of the year.

What exactly do these places or any others offer that Florida does not? It confuses me. Many people act like these places are safer or cleaner or less of a hell than Florida, some are, but most cities in the NE are hellholes compared to Florida's cities. A girl I knew once told me that NJ's cities are "less ghetto" than Florida's. I almost died laughing! Makes me wonder what rose colored glasses these people are looking through. Your opinions please!
I don't live in Florida, but these are the reasons my brother wants out:

- No sense of community
- Mostly all chain restaurants; no really good restaurants
- Misses the 4 seasons (he didn't realize how HOT/HUMID it was)
- Very transient; hard to make friends, etc.........
