Question....

Here in California my huband gets paid 40 hour at regular rate then anything over that they pay him time and a half and then he gets double time for I think anything over 50 hours. I cant remember but I know he gets paid double time also.

He just got his first check in Florida and it was way lower then we expected. They only paid him for overtime and time and a half.

Does anyone know the laws in Florida for that? Do they not have time and a half?

Thanks for any help.

-Clarissa

Is all based on the type of job and the wage determination factor. If you have a hourly job, the first 40 hours are straight time and anything over the 40 hours is overtime ( this is a goverment contractor job). If you have a salary job, will depend on the type offer that was made, normally salary does not get overtime at the 1 1/2 rate. Key to the whole process, this will be determined at the time of the job offer with the benefit package. Use the salary.com website to view salary data by job description and zipcode.

Wage info should be outlined in his employee handbook. Be wary of info on salary.com, most of the companies are 1,000 employees or larger.

All of the hourly jobs I ever had in Florida were paid straight time the first 40 hours, and anything over was paid at time and a half. I never got double time anywhere in Florida, no matter how many hours over 40 that I worked or what days they were.

thanks guys. I am so bummed.

Even though he is making like $5.00 an hour more over in Florida.... it still isnt more then what he was making here in California with double time. We never even thought to ask that question when making the move over. So now we are out like $1000.00 a month we though we would be getting.... I knew there had to be a catch as to why they were opening up in Florida. I mean, these guys... they work like 60-70 hours a week so in California he was making 15 hour overtime and like 15 double time.

owell, i guess we live and learn. Too late to go back to California. I will just be looking for a job sooner then I thought!

You should not be basing your income on having to work 70 hours a week. How do the two jobs compare if your husband only worked a normal 40 hour week? No one should be working 70 hours a week except in the most unusual of circumstances but not as a general rule..

I agree. That sure does not leave much time for togetherness.

I've never heard of people getting paid double time - I live in Nevada.

I was a union crane operator and got a guaranteed 40 ( no getting rained out I got paid anyway) plus all over time was double time. Triple time if I got called in on my day off or holidays plus I began getting paid from the time they got hold of me to come in. That was in the early 70's. I think Nevada is very union oriented. I would bet a lot of people there get double time.
