Just saw yesterday - Tues. - $2.52 on S.W. 40 st (bird rd.) at a Weststar gas station.

I heard on the news that it's going to drop significantly, probably to a $1.20 something - though, they didn't say when.
Yesss!!!

Forgive me for asking this ignorant question...but I've also noticed diesel is more expensive nowadays when it always used to be cheaper. What happened?

Btw..It's Friday & it's 2.49 down here.

$2.79 here still. But if you look hard you can find 2.71-2.69.
It was $2.19 in TN the other day.

The information listed below presents the basic criteria for fuel prices. Also I included the definition of diesel fuel and the actual cost of processing regular fuel vs diesel fuel. This month, the cost of processing diesel is greater than regular fuel.

Methodology For Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Pump Components
The components for the gasoline and diesel fuel pumps are calculated in the following manner in cents per gallon and then converted into a percentage:
Crude Oil - the monthly average of the composite refiner acquisition cost, which is the average price of crude oil purchased by refiners.
Refining Costs & Profits - the difference between the monthly average of the spot price of gasoline or diesel fuel (used as a proxy for the value of gasoline or diesel fuel as it exits the refinery) and the average price of crude oil purchased by refiners (the crude oil component).
Distribution & Marketing Costs & Profits - the difference between the average retail price of gasoline or diesel fuel as computed from EIA's weekly survey and the sum of the other 3 components.
Taxes - a monthly national average of federal and state taxes applied to gasoline or diesel fuel.
It should be noted that the second and third components can vary widely, depending on the time when the components are being calculated. Since there is typically a lag between when the spot price changes to when the retail price changes, the refining costs & profits component and the distribution & marketing costs & profits component can vary from month to month. For example, as prices increase on the spot market, often the retail prices take time to adjust. Thus, at this point in the cycle, the refining costs & profits component (assuming no corresponding increase in crude oil prices) would be relatively large while the distribution & marketing costs & profits component would be relatively small. However, later on, as retail prices "catch-up" with the previous spot price increases, the distribution & marketing costs & profits component would increase while the refining costs & profits component would decrease.

Crude oil prices are fundamentally driven by the global balance between supply and demand, often influenced by geopolitical or natural events. But at the same time, the price of gasoline relative to crude oil is a major factor in the profitability of refining, and the size of that spread helps to determine whether refiners will demand more or less crude oil, influencing its price. Both factors have come into play during the past 6 weeks, as crude oil prices have eased due to a perceived reduction in threats to global supply, and the end of the driving season has magnified the drop in gasoline prices. The latter reflects a decrease in the gasoline crack spread from historically high levels this summer to unusually low levels by mid-September.

What is diesel fuel?
Diesel fuel is principally a blend of petroleum-derived compounds called middle distillates (heavier than gasoline but lighter than lube oil) and may or may not contain additional additives. Other middle distillates include kerosene and No. 2 Heating Oil. Diesel fuel is designed to operate in a diesel engine where it is injected into the compressed, high-temperature air in the combustion chamber and ignites spontaneously. This differs from gasoline, which is ignited in a gasoline engine by the spark plugs.

WHAT WE PAY FOR IN A GALLON OF DIESEL FUEL
Mo/Year Retail Price Refining % Distribution & Marketing % Taxes % Crude Oil %
(Cents per gallon)
Aug-06 304.5 22.4 6.3 17.5 53.7

WHAT WE PAY FOR IN A GALLON OF REGULAR GASOLINE
Aug-06 295.2 15.2 13.5 15.9 55.4

GAs prices continue to drop drastically, see the following link:
http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx

Is interesting that some areas in Nevada (White Paine) are over $3.00 per gallon.

Today is Sept.23 and gas prices in Navarre (the panhandle) dropped to $2.13 per gallon.

I believe gas prices may continue to drop ( possibly because the elections are drawing near? ) but, they will be going back up. Thankfully, I use a liquid fuel additive that works out where I'm paying anywhere from 50-90 cents a gallon less than the pump prices.
