Do you think Orlando ,Tampa and Jacksonville are on the way to having the same issues as Miami and becoming more like it?

West Palm Beach and Orlando already have higher crime rates than Miami.

orlando? yes, it's getting there. dont know about tampa. jax? i'd say has the least chance of becoming like miami. more natives up there that try and keep it "old fla" despite all the new-comers.

It really depends on how much money is comming from the outside. Miamification needs low salaries, foreign and nothern investment, and plenty of corruption. Add a subculture of non-native people who shun English, and the Miamification is complete.

Are you thinking of certain issues in particular, INeedAChange?

Jacksonville and Miami are pretty different places, and they're also located quite a distance from each other so the surrounding influences are different.

I think there is some common ground with certain issues, and then they have issues exclusive of each other.

Jacksonville doesn't want to be Miami, that's for sure . We're different and not trying to be like any other Florida city.

I was thinking of the language "barrier", crime, and perceived rudeness of miami

Jax has a higher murder rate per capita than Miami.

Jax has 13 per 100,000 as opposed to Miami's 10 per 100,000. Orlando had a 328% increase in crime in 2006 also ( I happen to be living here now) and you watch the news & it's not that different from south Florida now. That wasn't the case a decade ago.

Well, when it comes to crime, I think it's the other cities who want to become like Jax - they only WISH they had Jax's crime (jealous?) !

I'm kidding of course, but no, Jax can't take any more crime, we're still trying to battle down what we have .

I don't see language issues being a problem here and it's not that way now. It would be hard to make a living in Jax without speaking english and it's getting too expensive here to just "slide by".

Rudeness.....what's rude, really? Sure, we've got rude people here in Jax. There's no rhyme or reason to it, some people are just nasty and mean. Overall though, I find people to be quite nice here. I'm someone who generally keeps to herself when in public, but anyone can talk to me and I can talk to anyone and it's a relaxed dialogue - it's just a laid back city .

So, we may face increased challenges with our population growth, but I don't know that we'll mirror the issues in Miami, I tend to think we'll have our own distinct issues.
