I was living in Hollywood, FL on that day (15 miles north of downtown Miami) and the snow we experienced that early morning was something like 1/4 of an inch that melted in less than half an hour. Northerners wouldn't even call it "snow" but just a "flurry." I remember we blamed it on Anita Bryant!

The difference between miami and west palm beach temperature wise only becomes apparent during winter. During cold snaps temps in WPB can be as much as 6f colder than in Miami. while this might seem small it makes a difference. during the 2010 cold snaps while west palm beach experienced a light freeze, Miami only had a ground Frost. The result is that when I drove through west palm after the freeze almost all the unprotected tropicals had been killed or were severely damaged. while in miami my north facing, unprotected, completely exposed mature coconut tree only suffered from minor leaf damage. while yes it's true the suburbs of SW Dade did experience sub-freezing temps and in some areas a borderline hard freeze. almost everywhere east of the turnpike only experienced ground frost and that is the big difference between miami and west palm beach. In palm beach county there are no freeze proof locations while in miami-dade there are, and if you plan on having long lasting tropical plants then miami is your best bet.

What is interesting is the overall average for West Palm Beach is higher than Miami's average high during the day in winter but cooler at night. WPB also is more subject to cold snaps as one is coming next week where the lows are dropping to the low 50s but Miami lows are around 70.

Average jan temps

Miami 74/63
West Palm Beach 76/56

I see Miami at 76 and 61, WPB at 75 and 58.
