There are several little towns just outside of Gainesville that offer affordable prices on housing, it just depends on what you want to be close to. Starke is a pretty quiet little town about 30 minutes away with good schools and growth with lots of building going on.

Gainesville is incredibly overpriced on everything because of being a college town. Waits to get in good restaurants can be 2 hours. Traffic is horrible and there are parts of town to stay out of, just like any larger town. If you don't mind traffic and thousands of students, you will like it, lots to do.

Ocala is awesome. Lived there for 2 years. Housing is pretty high there too, but it's nice as far as the weather. Far enough inland to miss the bad storms, close enough to just be a short drive to Daytona.

Unfortunately some towns in north Florida still don't have some services such as high-speed internet, which boggles me.

We lived on the east side of Gainesville and it wasn't bad, you can drive just 15 minutes out and be OUT. Lots of lots for sale and homes being built.

Are there any good jobs in those small, inexpensive towns? Ocala isnt that expensive, I can get a 2 bedroom house for 150k or a 2 bedroom condo for 100k! There needs to be jobs that I like though!
