My wife and I want to move to Florida(for the weather and entertainment) and would like to start or purchase a business. Are there any good franchises that do well there? What would be a good business to start? What are the best area's to do business in Florida? We would like to move to the Disney, Universial or Tampa area, any good suggestion's?

I hear McDonald's is a good oen to get into.

With all joking aside. Both areas have tons of franchises already here. What sort of franchise do you want to get into? How involved do you want to be? Are you wanting a seasonal business or year round? Lots and lots of things to consider.

An entertainment based franchise would likely do better in Orlando since they have more tourists.

Right now the economy in Florida is bad, meaning it's not really the best climate to start a new business. With that said, if you can find a business that thrives in bad economies.... this would be the place.

Bar's are good business down here and I hear they are pretty much recession proof.

Discount cigarette stores and liquor stores seem to always be busy. At least in the Hernando,Pasco county areas.

Exactly, that or any small business at this point. I know I'm considering it.

I agree. If I had the funding for it an authentic British-style pub would do amazingly well in my opinion in the Davenport/Five Points area just past Disney. A lot of UK tourists are in the area who come and spend "holiday" there regularly.

Probably any business you have some experience/background in whether employment or personal interest. It is a mistake to go into something you know nothing about. Franchises are expensive, but at least there you have a known brand and a lot of support. Bear in mind there is a LOT of competition here, in just about everything.

Bounty Hunters and Private Security can also do well in most areas of Florida.
