At First that report surprised me but after thinking about it the hot weather is not really good for getting out and exercising. People may be chased in the house and before you know it they are just sitting in front of the TV eating. I run everyday but it's on the treadmill in the house with airconditioning, It's safer and healthier. I often see these people pounding their way down the sidewalk in he hot sun and think they must be crazy. Although it seems like Florida is an outdoor place, I'm not so sure. How do most of you stay in shape down here? I bike ride some mostly early and in the evening. I run, (treadmill) hit the heave bag and speed bag plus some light weight lifting. My wife does Yoga but I never got into it. Actually Florida didn't do that bad, I think it was like 34 on the fat list, thats pretty good.

Default YMCA 3 to 5 days a week!!!

I do an hour of cardio, at least. Cut my portions in 1/2, gave up coca cola except with my one slice of pizza, cut bread to one day a week, that sort of thing.

After going quite a while without air conditioning and not being able to sleep, I became ill and have gained fat. As soon as I get home I sit under the air conditioning vent with my gut touching the table...LOL! The weather in Florida is poor for excersize at least 6 months out of the year. All the stress and problems as of late have taken away my desire to "work out" but if a hurricane comes there always seems to be the motivation to get lots of excercise.

I ride my bike year round, at least 5 days a week. I have broken my routine lately because of our recent move, but I got a workout with that, anyway! In this heat, I have to do it early, or I won't do it.

I take a swimming aerobics class 3x a week and walk the other days. I am now up to 3½ miles without any problems from the summer heat(I usually walk around 9/10 a.m.)
I occasionally ride a bike and use a stair stepper.
To understand how great I feel about my excercise program you have to realize that before moving here, I was lucky to walk a long block once or twice a week.
With all the fresh fish and produce, I also eat a lot healthier. Yes, I am losing weight!!

I used to go to the gym, I ride my bike in the house and getting a treadmill at the house. Sometimes I get in the pool, but we rarely use it, but its nice to look at. Come some cooler weather (Nov/Dec) I will be out on my bike or walking for 4-5 months outdoors, then back to the indoors May through November. Florida really doesn't have ideal weather for exercising outdoors like other states do.

Actually, isn't Florida listed as 34th? I don't think that's so bad. Tennessee is 5th, which does not surprise me.

When I lived in Florida, I could eat all that I wanted and not gain weight. Granted, most of my cars did not have air conditioning!

I don't even want to say how much weight I have gained since I moved to Tennessee.

i have noticed that, hiknapster. when i moved back to fla (from nc) i noticed how a lot of ppl down here in fla seemed much healthier. not to be mean, but there are a large number of ........ big ppl...... in nc and tn.

where i live now in east-east orlando, i see much more thin/avg ppl than i do large, and in nc, i remember that was almost the opposite.

A treadmill is by far the best. Reason being, once you start it up you have to walk or fall off. So you can just start it, put on some music and there you go. With an exercise bike or stair climber it is too easy for you to just slack off. Exercising in air conditioning is also very good, getting over heated is not good for you. Also if you like boxing like I do, a heavy bag and speed bag will give you a great workout.

I have guys all the time be at the house and they start hitting the bag and can't lift their arms anymore in less then a minute. It takes an amazing amount of endurance to box say two or three rounds. A home gym may be one of the best investments you can make for your family. If I was a builder, forget media rooms, I would be putting in home gyms. Mine is 25 x 25 combo billiard room gym.

Not to hijack this thread, but any suggestions on what treadmills are good or bad?
