I just moved here and a friend from germany is gonna come for vacation and I would love to show him this fun and the taste

So I know how it is.. everybody want to keep their own secret... but I would realy appriciate for a nice tip ... even a private message would be nice

Crab traps and chicken necks. I must have been the grim reaper for thousands of poor little crabs when I was a kid. I used to make my own traps. You just brought back some great memories crabbing and catching cat fish along the New River.

I just saw one like two weeks ago in a neighbors yard, I live near a canal about 8 miles inland Miami. Growing up you would see them everyplace near the coast in and around the mangroves but i think people have killed and eaten to many of them. Because you don't see that many today at least here in Miami. Maybe I am wrong.

You may be thinking about land crabs. I had a neighbor who was French and ate them all the time. I don't think I ever would.

Default crabs are scavengers... as well as shrimp

You can catch Blue Crabs in many areas along the east coast. Wabasso is an old haunt ... stop by the Wabasso Bait and Tackle shop. I never used traps... I'd fish for crabs at night... use a wire loop and net.

Best bait: chicken necks and backs

Blue Crab: Florida Seafood and Aquaculture
Recreational Blue Crabbing Information

I forgot about that. We would also just put out a few dozen lines with bait on the end and just pull it up slowley, they really hold on. Then you just net them. I hate to say it but I would not be craze about eating any crabs caught in most canals around Florida anymore, too polluted.

Same with the fish. I see people fishing in the canals around here and think, I can't believe they would actually eat them. Had a good friend who was a chief at one of the top sea food restaurants in Fort lauderdale and he said they would get fresh fish from the docks when the boats came in and you would not believe the fish. They would cut cancers out and all kinds of parasites before serving the fish.

Land crabs (Blue Land crabs) or any shell fish including craw fish or sea crabs have a major large left or right claw. To catch them with your bare hand with absolutely no harm or bites, just hold them from their backs with the same hand that has the claw on that side, eg; if it is a left major claw, hold it from the back with your left hand and vise versa and they cannot claw or bite you as that claw cannot come all the way around. Been catching land crabs and sea crabs with my family since I was a kid day and night taking bottle torches in Jamaica and having family crab feasts and inviting friends.
