Minimal decking is called "picture frame decking" with one side (usually the shallow end of the pool) with a decent size pad for entertaining/grilling etc.
Guess you wouldn't like my pool.

When you have 40 or so people over for a party you want to have enough room

Actually that would be considered a picture frame deck (2 sides atleast). Hard to tell but it looks very minimal at the far side/deep end with the "party pad" at the shallow end. It is wider along the house but that is kind of a dead area for doing anything anyway (no big planters etc.).

When you have a 12 X 24 pool in the middle of a 30 X 60 deck, that is a waste of space!

Florida has its share of problems and gambing is not something it needs to solve them. Ironically one of the biggest opponents to FL Gaming is Disney (they are dumping millions into anti gaming lobbying). Mr. and Mrs. Small Town USA go to Florida for vacation with the kids annually....do they blow 3K at Disney or 3K at the casino resort?
It creates big dollars in state tax from the gaming(state revenue). The crap jobs really aren't much...compared to the huge injection of money into the state coffers from the taxes. It's mostly white haired retirees on group outings that hit the casinos. They eat at the buffets, game, they get to wear their sparkly vegas attire. They might stay the night in a hotel. They are more interested in a day outing than they are in trying to hit it big. Most are doing fine in their retirement(they aren't losing their rent money gambing)

I know of at least 16 "Fortune 500" companies based in Florida.
I haven't made minimum wage since I was a junior in high school. I don't feel that a state, county, or city owes anyone anything but the services that they pay for with taxes. If you've "never had a problem" finding work in Florida then you haven't been looking for the past 4-5 years.

If you honestly believe that Florida has more people employed making above minimum wage then it has making minimum wage then you need to pull your head out of the sand and look at reality. Florida is a tourism state plain and simple. The service industry will ALWAYS be the # 1 employer in the state and they don't pay.

The main percentage of people that own nice cars and houses in Florida I would imagine are people that came from other states, are retired, or own their own businesses.

As far as Fortune 500 companies...

Florida has 15.
Texas has 58.

Current casinos in Florida don't give a dime in taxes (Seminole Indians are exempt)... If you haven't visited a casino lately you should..... Lots of housewives pumping money into slots/video poker machines all night long! Wannabe poker stars dumping money onto tables thinking "well I saw this on tv!". The old people are more scarce than in years past and they are hovering in the nickel slot section.

Casinos are far from glamorous places.....
