Maybe to you and me. I don't care about all of the moralist mumbo-jumbo. If people want to gamble, let them. I'd prefer that they do it in Florida instead of Atlantic City or Las Vegas.

I guess if you like decadent and gaudy stucco homes with zero architectural merit. Hey, more power to you.

I have been to a casino lately. There are already casinos in FL that are NOT part of the American Indian casinos. That's where I went. They pay lots of taxes to the state. All I saw was white haired folks. So what if housewives are playing the slots/poker machines. They are doing it for entertainment, not trying to make next month's rent. Just like the big entertainment draw in Vegas. People go there for the experience, not to pay next month's rent.

Technology.

Construction is now picking back up in FL. I saw several jobs ads within last few days in the construction supply industry. These days, you see new homes being built again(more than one or two). You see construction materials being delivered (trusses, lumber, blocks, etc) on the road again, for brand new homes. You didn't see that for 4 years. But it is noticable again. Not in volumes like before, but construction is moving forward in FL and the industry is starting to hire again.

Florida has turned the corner and the ecomony is moving forward again. It will take a quarter or two before you see it in the statistical trend. Folks are spending money in FL, shopping, going to restaurants.

Why didn't you respond to TriMT7's post and the homes he provided pictures of?
You stated you could find the type of home you posted in Houston for $120K but I guess you couldn't so you moved your boundary out to Katy?

Texas has 9.5% of their hourly paid workforce earning minimum wage

Florida has 6.7% of their hourly paid workforce earning minimum wage, that would mean 93.3% of the hourly paid workforce is making above minimum wage. It looks like you were wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off.

In Florida all wage and salary workers paid hourly rates had median hourly earnings of $12.36 in 2010
In Texas all wage and salary workers paid hourly rates had median hourly earnings of $11.20 in 2010

This is info easily obtainable from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

So we have shown a higher percentage making minimum wage in Texas, higher median hourly wage in Florida and that you post absolutely erroneous information.

Try the FL suburbs and bedroom communities for similar pricing on larger homes:

PARTS of Florida are tourist areas. Most of the state has nothing to do with the tourist trade. Orlando, Tampa, Miami are tourist draws. The rest of the state has other things going on besides tourism. Right, haven't looked for a job in the past 4-5 years, been employed in the state since 1988.

As far as anyone with a house and a car being from out of state, I think your thinking is skewed.

Believe it or not, the U.S.A. is a service oriented economy in the first place. Has been for years.

The main percentage of people that own nice cars and houses in Florida I would imagine are people that came from other states, are retired, or own their own businesses.

As far as Fortune 500 companies...

Florida has 15.
Texas has 58.

Thanks for digging up some facts. Shows how narrowed minded some of the posters can be.
