View Poll Results: Should Florida separate into two states?
Yes, they are too different and South Florida could get more tax money and politics would pay more attention to us. 44 45.36%
No, it would hurt our economy and be a bad decision. 39 40.21%
I don't really care 14 14.43%

I agree the states mentioned should be split including Florida, and it should have happened decades ago. Yes a more localized Gov't should be in a better position to serve its citizens. Much better than the way things are now. Then again there are some states in this country, that I don't understand why they were given statehood in the first place. I can only imagine it is because, we all share the same land area of North America.

Yes I noticed that. If this were to be on the ballot, I would vote against it even though I support splitting up Florida; reason is because you have counties like Polk, Highlands, Hendry and other rural counties that are completely different from south Florida in terms of culture and politics. I recently moved here to highlands county and it is very southern in culture here. This area is nothing like south Florida and is more in line with northern Florida. So it wouldn't make any sense to include Heartland Florida into south Florida.

I had no idea there were so many Native Americans living and maintaining the true Florida culture up there!

This is the whole problem with America. America should be a nation of diverse beliefs and encourage different ways of thinking. Dividing a state because of political ideologies is a literal division of our own people. This is the way politicians got you by the balls people. No, I don't want the state to split. Get over the fact some people have different viewpoints and learn to get along.

Except you forget some people simply cant be happy with other people that think so differently from them. So dividing groups with others that think like them, could make things more civil.

However, as recently as 2011 proposals were still being made to split Florida in half, as in this quote from South Floridians:

South Florida would consist of Palm Beach, Broward, Dade, and Monroe County.
North Florida would consist of all other counties.

Do you think this is a good idea? What are your opinions? We all know that they're very different in culture and politics but would this actually be any good?
Theres different cultures and politics all over the country, even from county to county and city to city,
Your hypothetical plan to split up the country along political or cultural lines wouldnt leave much of a country and certainly not a place i'd want to live
Wouldnt it be more expedient/beneficial to embrace the political and cultural diversity of the country as something that serves to make the country great? A veritable mosaic of cultures and viewpoints from around the world that have come together to make America the best country in the world.

Not likely, though it's happened before. The last time a U.S. state split in two was during the Civil War, when 50 counties in Virginia broke away to form the state of West Virginia. Kentucky was also previous part of Virginia before it split in 1792, and Maine was part of Massachusetts until 1820.
