A depressed little central Florida town... that is a notorious speed trap.... but in defense of Mulberry, I've only driven through on SR 60.

The center of the phosphate mining industry -- not too may years ago, everything in Mulberry had a white film on it. If you want a pretty little town in the same general area, go a few miles south on Rt 37 to Rt. 640, then east to US 98/17, then south to Fort Meade. From the looks of the older houses, this is where the phosphate mine owners lived. I haven't spent any time there, but I drive through it frequently, and it's a lovely little town.

Dear 12paws42,

Having lived in central Florida all my life, I have some observations of Mulberry.

First, Mulberry is a general area where industrial companies have located because of the phosphate industry and also because of the large furniture distributor Badcock Home Furnishings.

Next, the area immediately north, but probably still called "Mulberry" is a bedroom community for area of Lakeland. This might mean that people who work in Lakeland have found it more appealing or inexpensive to live in the Mulberry area.

Because Hwy 60 runs through it, many of us have spent a lifetime passing through Mulberry and really don't know much about it.
