Why is FL the butt of jokes in shows like Saturday Night Live and The Office?

I just watched current and DVR'd episodes of these shows and they've cracked jokes about FL more than any other state, just wondering why?

Probably because so many people are familiar with Florida whether they live there or just vacation there, it makes for easy visualization of a place to put over some humor..
Dont take it personally its just humor..

I saw The Office not just the most recent episode but prior ones leading up to it, mentioned Florida and the typical stereotypes associated it with it. What concerns me is a lot of people are easily manipulated and get their culture and answers from the TV without ever actually being to a place or experiencing it. Just like I have people telling me that when they think of Florida a visual of Mickey Mouse, CSI Miami (use to be Miami Vice), Gators and such come to their head.

This was from an earlier episode:

Hehe - I agree! Florida is a popular state, known for many things including "crimes of the weird" and such (besides are beautiful scenery, weather and Disney. It's like the old saying goes - "no such thing as bad publicity."

I really don't consider this a bad thing at all.

Yeah but look how they portray Scranton. Like when Ryan says Pam is an 8 in Scranton but would be a 6 in NYC.

I've noticed this too. Especially on "The Office." Yeah, I'm sure wherever it is in PA that they film from is so much better. Scranton, PA? Gimme a break!

On SNL, I haven't heard a reference to FL. Unless you're talking about th one over the weekend where they mentioned FL in the "Bronx Beat" skit... I caught that too if this is the one you're referencing, but I think they just mentioned FL, not made fun of.

PS- the one Office episode where they mentioned the movie "Deliverance" when talking about Tallahassee was pretty funny though.
