Looking for a job in Florida? Have you ever tried EmployFlorida Marketplace? What do you think about it?

EmployFlorida Marketplace is the state job bank sponsored by Workforce Florida and the Department of Economic Opportunity. This job bank works by linking all of Florida's state and local workforce services and resources. There are 24 regional autonomous workforce boards in Florida that administer more than 80 "one-stop centers."

My opinion: I have used EmployFlorida Marketplace and I believe that it is a good tool for applying for job opportunities across the state and getting information about employment related services, such as workshops and trainings. However, I find that many employers and "one stop career centers" are extremely focused on applicants who are receiving some kind of welfare, so that employers can receive a tax incentive for hiring this applicants. My impression is that receiving welfare in Florida is the gateway to being hired by many employers. That's not fair!!! I wonder what happens after tax incentives are over.

I think these sites are a joke, I previously sent this to people who lived here already and were out of work. This goes back 3 or 4 years ago, most said they got nothing but SPAM back from their job inquires. Florida is one of those states where it's who you know, not what you know to get a job.

THX 1138,

I think the problem is not EmployFlorida Marketplace itself, but the people who administer it locally, which is in charge of the 24 autonomous regional workforce boards across the state.

In other words, the regional workforce boards act as the middleman between employers in a particular region and applicants. Yes... one can apply for job postings across Florida, but...

...the problem is that if one applies for a job posted in a different region... let's say for example: from Palm Beach County (Workforce Alliance) to Duval County (Worksource)... the regional workforce board where the job is located probably will not take care of one's application because of the different region where one is registered.

In addition, I find that many employers seems to be mostly interested in people receiving social assistance benefits or veteran benefits, so that employers can receive a tax incentive for hiring such applicants. That's not fair for someone who is unemployed and not receiving welfare.

Default Hotel Position in Florida

Thank you all for the info! Would it be really hard, to find a hotel position in Florida searching from NYC? Bachelor's Degree. Manhattan hotel experience. What area would you suggest for making money in the hotel industry? I would really appreciate responses. 👩

I don't blame Florida for trying to fill their jobs with the unemployed people in Florida. They are trying to help their own. I , too would love any kind of lower paying job and will keep trying, but will probably have to wait until I move there. I will have funds for about 2 years of joblessness so I hope I will be able to land something that will allow me to stay.

I though I was the only one in NYC looking for a hotel position and a healthcare position in Florida. There are hotel positions there in Florida but it's quite difficult in getting your foot in the door. I, like yourself, have the experience of working in the hospitality industry in a NYC hotel and I am a licensed cna. I understand that the pay is quite different because I used to live there but I honestly don't mind.
