Me and my husband are going to be moving to Florida for his job. We have 3 kids ranging from 1 to 12 and want to find a safe, educated place for us to live. Looking on the data, alot of places say hi crime. What are some good areas to raise a family?

Do you know anything about Perry? Have you visited the area before accepting a job?

It's a blue collar country town out in the middle of the woods, with everything that goes along with that, good and bad. The nearest "educated" city is Tallahassee, which is about 50 miles.

Perry is safe. It's a small town. Just don't move into a run-down part of town. It's not hard to look around and see if you are in a decent part of town or not.

Perry doesn't have the best reputation, especially if you aren't lily-white. How far are you willing to commute? SE Tallahassee would probably be considered to be the nearest educated place.

Thanks to Google images you can now get a small preview of the town you are planning on moving to. heres Perry Fla.
perry florida - Google Search

That Pudding Creek Mud Bog race looks like a real hoot.
Also has everything any one could want a real Howard Johnsons, a hospital, a school, plenty of churches, campground. And if you want to go out on the town theres the Skyland Restaurant.

Thanks, I will check it out. My husband has to work in Perry, but we may not live there. I have heard that section of Florida is pretty scarce and someone quoted "the armpit of Florida". Can't comment on that because I live in Louisiana and went through the Katrina fiasco and still trying to recover.

To me Perry has always been the place where if you've been driving north for the last 3 hours on 19 its where you turn left on 98 for the pan handle.
I suppose if i had to work in Perry i'd look for a place in far eastern Tallahassee and do the 40 mile traffic free commute every day..

No way would I commute from Tallahassee to Perry every day. 45-50 miles one way with nothing but pine trees on both sides of the road. No thanks.

Just get you a couple of acres outside of town (Perry town, not Tallahassee). If you like country living and don't care about big-time shopping, nightlife or things like that, there's nothing wrong with Perry. And Boardman's BBQ is a great little joint. I used to stop in there when I drove to and from Tallahassee for school.

I like Perry, my kinda place, i'm just trying to convey the flavor of the place to the op.
As for the 40 mile commute from the big T? would be a traffic free ride in the country that would take less than an hour,i'd find it rather enjoyable compared to a 40 mile run into Tampa everyday..
