I need help. I do my son's taxes for him...usually. He went to H R Block yesterday to find out what he could get back in a refund. WEll, the guy told him he owes the state of Florida some money in the amount of $1100. I have called the State to find out, they knew nothing; I called the Brevard Clerk of court, but those fees have now gone to a collection agency. He has a suspended license, so that could be it. No child support, no alimoney, and no back taxes.

Is there ANY number I can call in the State of Florida that can give me, or him he correct info he needs? He'd like to find out what agency he owes, to whom and why.

If H&R Block says he owes money they should be able to tell him who he owes the money to and where to send the cheque..
If its to the government then a call/visit to the IRS should clarify the situation.
I'm surprised some form of correspondence hasnt been received from the department where the money is owed.

I do not know the tax laws of Florida but in most states any refund will be offset to cover any stated or federal taxes due.

Some states do not take taxes due out of federal so I would not know about Florida.

You need to consult a tax preparer even if it cost you 50.00 for advice.
