My family is planning to relocate to Florida from California in the near future (due to work). What are some towns in the south east part of the state that would be suitable to raise a family? (I am not familiar with much of the area, but we are looking at anything from the Palm area south.)

Some things we are looking for are:
1. Community based
2. Smaller sub vs a big city--anything around 100,000 or smaller
3. Location for inland or beach does not matter
4. Family oriented neighborhoods--we are looking for a 5 bedroom house. I do not know if this makes a difference
5. Very Strong Schools--I have noticed that the Ca and Florida standards differ quite a bit. Since this will be a move of no more than three years, I am concerned about my children being behind the Ca expectations when we return.

I appreciate any guidence anyone can give. We are excited to take advantage of all that this part of the country has to offer.

A well-established family-oriented neighborhood in SE Florida I'd recommend that is also a top-rated school district is Cooper City (population 29,500), which is a NW suburb of Fort Lauderdale and centrally located in the tri-county area. Cooper City HS is consistently "A" rated year in/year out and among an area of solid family friendly neighborhoods. There are "newer" neighborhoods like Weston or Wellington that some like for the cookie-cutter design but don't think they have the neighborhood feel of an older more established area like Cooper City. Good luck!

My aunt lives in Cooper City. It's one of the most expensive areas in Broward to own a home. The OP clearly said $100,000 was her budget. She can't afford Broward at all.

It gets you the ghetto. There are no 5 bedroom houses for $100,000 or less anywhere south of PBC. For that your looking at $250,000-400,000. If your willing to expand your budget to at least $200,000 and downsize to a 4 or 3 bedroom, there are plenty of deals available in PBC.

Maybe I'm reading this with tired eyes, but I'm pretty sure the OP said 100,000 people, not $100,000.

I think that when you mentioned 100,000 you meant the population and not your budget. In the back of my mind, you are describing Weston, Fl when you mentioned all the things you are looking for. Public schools in the Weston area are all ranked A+ but you can always find private education at a reasonable cost. For school information try this link City of Weston

Give the city a look!

Good Luck!

be safe,

I have moved all over Florida born and raised... from East to West and North to South.. I currently live in Satellite Beach, very nice area.. but the market not the best for jobs and crime rate is climbing in the Melbourne area, I will be moving back to the Boca Raton area.. on the west side... multiple top rated schools in the state of Florida there, very low crime rate, and if your on the job hunt you have large area to look at. The Tampa bay area is nice but schools not good and crime high, very important when you move with kids.
