St Lucie metro should already be included in the South Florida metro IMO. I wonder why this hasn't been done yet. Development is continuous from Palm Beach up to the treasure coast.

I am just curious as to what other peoples thoughts are on this.

I consider Jupiter the beginning of the South Florida metro area,so basically from Palm Beach county south. It's well over a 100 miles from Jupiter south and even though I'm sure St.Lucie is growing I can't see how it can be considered South Florida as it's still a good 30-40 miles north of Jupiter. If you talk to someone from Michigan and tell them you live in South Florida then go for it and I would have no problem with it,I mean the University of South Florida is in Tampa but I'm not calling St.Lucie South Florida.

You can call it South Florida but it is much too far North to be part of the metro.

Do you know of people who live in St. lucie and work in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale?

What about Tequesta? Tequesta stretches pretty much up to Hobe Sound, which is part of STL metro. I grew up in the tri county area of South Florida and I have seen the two area's merge over the years, and I think they are more than close enough to be considered one entity.

Too far north? 2 miles is too far? Thats about how far the two metro areas are from one another.

Why does it have to be Mia or ft lauderdale? I am sure there are people that go that far but I have known plenty of people that drive the commute from St lucie/martin county into WPB.

Thanks for your input.

Well said. I tell people I would never line south of Jupiter in FL

If 2 miles is not too far then the next spot that is 2 miles away is not too far and we go on a slippery slope.

I ask about Miami or FTL commute because those are the larger strong holds of the metro.

Yep. 111 miles on google maps, 2 hours of traveling time from PSL to Miami. How on earth would anyone consider putting that in the south FL MSA? Also, from PSL, it's 125 miles to Orlando.

It honestly does not belong in either South FL or the Orlando/Central FL MSA.

I think the term South Florida is too broad and muddies the water in terms of description. For starters apparently someone was geographically challenged with the descriptive as it should include Naples and Fort Myers were that the case since it's really Southeast Florida. Reference points in my opinion should be the Miami/Ft Lauderdale metro and the West Palm Beach metro, like anywhere else in the country where the primary population centers name the area. Port St Lucie is too far out of the mix geographically and should probably be referred to as the Port St Lucie/Fort Pierce metro area.
