you're joking, right? It's a nice school, but no better than any of the bigger public schools in FL and WAY more expensive, because it's private. I'd put UF at the top of the heap.

As for the rest of your post, it sounds like you're bitter so if you actually live down here in FL, why are you still here?

Don't believe everything you read.

Orlando is better but certainly not close by any means. Neither is Miami but Miami is by far the closet.
Very little compares to NYC but on a scale

NYC

MIAMI

ORLANDO

TAMPA

+1 None.

I can't think of any city like NYC in any way. There are neighborhoods there that are similar to places in Philadelphia or places in Cincinnati, and I'm sure many other places. But there is no city on earth close to NYC. Anywhere.

Heck, the climate is part of NYC's personality. If NYC had Orlando weather, it sure wouldn't be NYC anymore.

Now I know no city in Florida is going to be like NYC, but I want to know what cities are closest (or closer than Tampa). Miami? Orlando?

Also, where is all the scientific jobs at?
What city in the state of New York (or anywhere in the Northeast, for that matter) is like Tampa?

If NYC had our weather, we would have 90% less bums, and 99% less retirees from NY

You cannot compare orlando to NYC. Orlando is the souless city of Florida if it had a big city comparison it would be Vegas. Tampa and Miami have way more soul than Orlando. If you don't get that you never lived in NYC or you lived there but were a bridge and tunnel type of person...

Completely disagree. There is a poster on this forum who has lived in both places and would disagree with you as well. Orlando is much more multi-dimensional of a city than Vegas is. There are some great parts of Orlando (Downtown, winter park) that are older and established with plenty of soul.

Agree that Orlando is much more milti-dimensional than Vegas. To me, Vegas is the epitome of a "soul-less" city. That said Orlando doesn't compare to NYC, which is what the original poster asked about (no place does) Which I think is a joke post, anyway (look at his user name).

I disagree with posters about Miami being the closest. Most of Miami is suburban, and downtown is a ghost town at night. Miami Beach is a different story though. That's probably the closest urban environment to NYC in Florida IMO. And to the OP, what horror stories have you heard about Miami? Crime there isn't as bad as its reputation would indicate. Sure it's busy, but isn't that what you are looking for? And yes, most people speak Spanish. While I've never lived there, on my many visits I've never had an issue with waiters, store clerks, and other people I interact with not being able to speak English.

That said, few cities in the world compare to NYC, and none here truly do. If you really want a tropical version of New York, you'd probably be better off some place like Singapore or Hong Kong

Vegas may be soulless, but Orlando is the next closest thing.

It's a joke of a town.
