We can't find a pool home in Lakeland that meets our requirements for June 1st. We see some in Lithia/ Fish Hawk that we love. But the realtor there said it would be an hour commute to Lakeland. Is that true? It is only about 27 miles away. But, rte 60 is supposed to be slow. Anyone have an idea?

Fishhawk traffic is terrible, it was poorly planned and there is 1 road in and out, so bumper to bumper and once you get on 60 it's traffic lights every 50 feet. Brandon / Lithia / Fishhawk traffic sucks. I have no doubt it would take you an hour to get to Lakeland.

Like most places in florida, you have to look at the gated community, not the town.

So you are in a gated community, congratulations. You are still in Valrico... on the outskirts of everything with terrible traffic if you want to go anywhere except FURTHER away from anything.

Well, it was a suggestion. Being as they can't find what they want in Lakeland. And you said: " It's Polk County, the most upscale thing in Polk County is the "welcome to hillsborough county" sign". Valrico is in Hillsborough, no? And not everyone wants to be in the "center of the universe" like you.

Valrico is still worlds better than anything in Polk county...

What the OP is looking for does not exist in Polk or Valrico.

You're right in a way. Rents are way too cheap in Lakeland. Makes it feel "downscale". You'd have to go over $3000 a month to feel "upscale" in Lakeland, someplace like Eaglebrook or Lake in the Woods......
