We just bought land about 30 miles west of Gainesville and about 60 miles N.W. of Ocala....Does anyone know anything about this area? In a town called Fanning Springs, anything about that general area?

No one answered your post! And it's a year later! Well, my parents lived in Old Town, so I know about it, but I suppose you do, too. The best thing about Fanning Springs is, well, Fanning Springs State Park, with the most beautiful swimming area I have ever seen, and the easy, non-crowded roads. Hate to say it, but the rest of it is a bit... backwards. But that's my yankee opinion! Hope you are happy there.

Yes, Old Town does have a reputation, doesn't it, entire Dixie County for that matter.
FS State park is beautiful and I believe it made some list of the 25 best places in United States for picnicking--only place in florida to earn that distinction
