I know this is a dated post but if you are still considering the move or others are reading this, I would suggest you consider Wilton Manors. It is a stand alone city in the middle of Fort Lauderdale, very gay friendly, in fact has a very high gay population so a certain liberalism follows, very safe, lots of coffee shops etc and lower prices and taxes than Fort Lauderdale. We live in Victoria Park which is also very liberal and part of Fort Lauderdale and there is a 24 hour Kinkos with free wi fi at the end of the street....Good luck!

Why not Marathon or Islamorada? Nightlife exists in terms of bars (not really club territory), great open/progressive vibe with a come as you are attitude, and great visuals to inspire your artistic needs.
