"And in other news, water is discovered to be wet."

Apparently, a majority of voters are OK with the corruption.

Have you looked at the amendments on the 2012 ballot? What is "religion" doing on an election ballot?

It's supposedly about religious freedom, something Rick Santorum preached about, but it's really the opposite. Amendment 8 is to repeal the ban of public dollars for religious funding. Is that even constitutional? Why would I want my sales tax or property tax dollars to go to any religious institution or cause?

I've already posted on other threads about the voter suppression tactics.

The idea is to allow K-12 students to take their state funding from public schools to 'nice Christian schools'. If it passes, I am so looking forward to the first rounds of screaming when a Muslim-run elementary school applies for state education funding certification because the only way you can legally make those kinds of things work is by opening it up to all religious faiths, not just the 'correct' Christian ones.

Round two is public funding in the Sunshine for Scientologist elementary schools. Elron's cult so wants to get their hooks in that money pot.

Miami (the primary focus of the quoted "Riptide" publication, most likely does lead Florida in crime, corruption and related areas. However, there are still 6-8 other major population centers/markets in this unusual state that have significantly different demographics than Miami.

Nothing makes this article or publication the 'Official' source of reliable information for Florida or the nation, except, perhaps, for its own dubious claim.

I think the central to western Panhandle could take most of the rest of the state if you went by a per capita basis. Y'all would be surprised if you knew how big the FBI office in these parts was, and a lot of their workload is public corruption investigations.

Not too long ago, the Okaloosa County Sheriff got himself some nice hard jail time because he'd been gambling in Vegas and paying for his mistress' home on the Intracoastal out of the Sheriff's Office budget.

Wink FloriDuh!

I'm curious if you find this revelation "shocking" -- being that Carpetbagging is the fundamental sport of the "New South" (over golfing, even)!

With the long-standing history of converting (and flipping/selling) swamp land, barrier islands and farmland (in Flood Zones) into luxurious communities (even whole new towns) to unsuspecting stooges, and the "magic bullet" these new projects will bring to local communities -- to their tax base, jobs, etc.! (I'm still waiting after decades for the local "bonanza" to our jobs <hiring illegals doesn't count>, schools, roads, infrastructure and general services to kick in!)

This has created entire business segments in the state of bottom-feeders who would sell their children for a buck: developers, development lawyers, bankers, mortgage brokers, real estate brokers, architects, engineers, construction contractors, infrastructure, utilities, etc. So let's say in the upcoming November Election, WHO do you think is writing the bulk of the biggest checks to support the candidates you'll be voting for?

Florida could really be divided into 3 different states: South, Central and North. The hubris on these deals seems to increase, as the I.Q. levels decrease (as you head north).

What's interesting is that in slick South Florida, a public project is announced where everyone can skim a cut out of the public trough, such as a new stadium. But at the end of the day, it does get built or happen...in other parts of the State, so much would be greedily skimmed off -- that the project never can be completed -- or they have to come back for approval of more public funds!

It's shocking that when these "blatant" deals are announced publicly, the local advocates and watchdogs seem to drink the Kool Aid and are quoted in the local press giving their support that "everything is just wonderful for our community!"

The National corruption level is no different: Bank bail-outs, Auto bail-outs, Defense Contractors, Homeland Security, etc.

If you've seen the Wizard of Oz movie, the Scarecrow character sings a song about "...if I only had a brain..." People who think we're still living in some form of a Democracy that supports all of us, should reveiw these lyrics again (and maybe sing along) for more insight.

This is not really news. It's not surprising at all. Watch any tv show like most shocking, worlds dumbest. Normally more than half of the incidents are in FL.

We were blessed with Casey Anthony, Zimmerman, that idiot rich guy in Miami that killed the guy when he was driving drunk and plowed him into a retention pond. FL gets lots of attention.

We've seen our share of it up here on the northeast side. Some people will try to get their piece of the pie, often very ineptly.
