I'm giving my son my car, which is titled in FL, but he's going to move up north and take the title with him and register it in his new state. So what do I put on the FL title as far as the cost since I gave it to him, do I indicate $0 dollars, or do I write something like "gift" on that line? I want to make sure I get it right because I know it's a pain if you happen to mess up a title.

Also, since the title is in both mine and my wife's name, but has "OR" in between it as opposed to "AND", then all it needs is just one of our signatures to sign it over to him, not both, right?

you can simply gift it to him or if you want to play it safe, say you sold it to him for $10.

.63 too much tax. $1 is the norm to simplify gifts. There are different rules depending on where he's going to title it. You really should find that out before hand to prevent problems. You may have to give him a notarized letter stating that it was a gift.

If the word is "or" in the title you are correct as you only need one signature.

If you do that, when he goes to register it, the state will assess it at blue book and charge him the sales tax accordingly.

What kind / year of car is it? You arent going to get away with "gifting" a relatively new car and getting away with not paying sales tax.

I gave my daughter my car. We went to the DMV together and the clerk told us to write "gift".

This was FL to FL so I suggest leaving it blank until he talks to the DMV in the other state.

I dont know about that, and at any rate, Florida will, so it's a moot point.

Buzzer Sound. Sorry but it's legal to gift a car to a family member or anyone else in Florida with the proper documentation.
