The Truman Show was filmed in Seaside (one of my favorite spots in the state)!

Pop multiple-choice quiz:

No, it's a fun one, I promise.

The setting of the new novel entitled Insane City could only be:

(a) Miami

(b) Danbury, Connecticut

(c) Miami

(d) Zurich, Switzerland

(e) Miami

(f) Omaha, Nebraska

(g) MIAMI! It's MIAMI, MIAMI of course!!!

Humorist Dave Barry's new novel Insane City is, indeed, set in (answer: a-c-e-g of course!) Miami.

He recently discussed this novel (and offered some colorful and presumably nonfiction commentary about life in Miami and Florida) on public radio's On Point, which is available to listen to on the NPR website. (Hope my posting this link is ok, as they are public radio, not for profit?):

Dave Barry On ‘Insane City’ | On Point with Tom Ashbrook

For any Dave Barry fans (or even if you've never heard of him), definitely worth a listen. Part satire, part homage, and confirms your sense that Florida is "special" while at the same time making you feel life will never be dull if you live here. Impressive balancing act and keeps you laughing along the way as well. (Again--see my earlier post--I'm not a PR person, I just apparently play one on City-Data.)

Tom Wolfe's latest book, "Back to blood" is from Miami.

I remember a tv-show named Key West, about a man who dreames about a life like Hemingways. He suddenly gets rich and moves to Key West. I loved the series, but it is probably 15 years ago since I saw it. Worth a try, though, if you enjoy some Key West scenery.
