We lived on the east coast of FL and didn't mind the weather or pests there. I have read some things about the west coast of FL that make me feel like the weather and critters there are not as pleasant.

For those of you who have lived on both coasts, what's your opinion? East or West coast of FL better??

I have lived on both and can't say I've noticed a huge difference in the weather with respect to east and west. North and south, yes - it's amazing what even a fairly modest difference in latitude will do for the temperature. But I think statistically the east coast is more likely to get hurricanes. Pests seem to be the same. Overall I think I prefer the west coast but I do't think it's because of the weather, just the general package.

The west coast is definitely hotter IMO, especially in the winter time you can really notice it

Doesn't seem that way to me at all. The differences are really from north and south Florida, or coastal and inland. Doesn't matter what coast.

I live on the SW coast and I find Miami heat in the summer to be UNBEARABLE. I always feel its much more oppressive...Maybe its just Miami its self tho...

The gulf does seem warmer IMO. Consider Cocoa/Melbourne vs Tampa in the winter. Maybe it's subjective on my part, but it seems like those 2 areas get cooler than Tampa does.

In my experience once get over 10 miles inland there's no noticeable difference. However, if you are near the coast East seems to be much nicer breeze. Southwest FL heat can be oppressive and stays that way longer than Atlantic coast it seems.

I've lived on both coasts and I think that the West coast in winter is cooler and the East stays warmer. I also think the East stays cooler in summer and the West is hotter. But it's just by a tiny bit and only my perception. I think the bugs and critters are pretty much the same everywhere in the Southern part of the state regardless of coast. We might have more iguanas here on the East. Although we had a lot of cold weather a few winters ago and it killed off a bunch of them.
