i am considering a move to either ft myers or sarasota...ive been trying to get as much info as i can...can someone who is familiar with both areas give me their opinion on which area is nicer to live.

from what i have read so far it seems as though sarasota may have more of a big city type feel and have more things to do, more nightlife, ect....i plan to rent at first and eventually buy a condo...ive also heard there are more condos being built and better deals in ft myers at this time.

any info is appreciated...thanks.

Assuming commuting is not a problem...I would pick Sarasota over Ft Myers. I think it's a nicer area. But I love Ft Myer Beach over Sarasota!

Try North Port or Venice.

However check into insurance, now might be the time with homes down to buy.

Wink Sarasota

Live in Sarasota, love sarasota. Ft. Myers is more swampy, only one beach to speak of, and very touristy surrounding beach. Sarasota, more beaches, more cosmopolitan, more of everything.

Default ft myers vs sarasota

I live in Ft Myers and visit Sarasota often. It depends on what exactly you value. Both places are great and Ft. myers is not swampy. Sarasota actually lies at lower elavation.
Both have arts, sarasota a museum. Ft. Myers is greating a great down town atmosphere. they have night life in the park area each weekend. the Edison - Ford homes is interesting and light for Christmas. fort myers beach always has activity but not over 60 style. Sanibel-Captiva is a delight and beautiful.
The two towns have a different feel and only a visit will let you know if it is right for you. Getting around is difficult in both until you know what is where and then it is easy. contact a realtor in each city and let them show you what is availble in each town in your budget.

I fully agree with you that Sanibel and Captiva are delightful and beautiful places. Ft Myers Beach is definitely for the younger set.
