What do you think florida would be like today if it wasn't for the massive influx of northerners (mostly nor-easterners) to the state over the last several decades?

Do you think florida would be much like its immediate neighbors and just another southern state?

It would still be a whole lot of farm, orchard and ranch land.

A lot of northerners have brought a lot of money into south Florida. It has also made it less country and more cosmopolitan.

and no matter how many northerners there are there are still people who are going to drive in the left lane at 10 MPH under the speed limit.

I agree. Before the the invention of A/C people were not moving to Florida like they are today.

The transplants have been coming since the railroad made it easy to get here. A/C certainly made it more tolerable for everyone. I think the growth of the state was inevitable.

The beaches and the weather are always going to be a major draw to the area.
For those that dont like the influx of northerners Part of problem is Florida residents bragging to every one about how Florida has such nice beaches and warm weather and describing the place as paradise, then some one mentions the slightest negative about the place they are immediately taken to task for their audacity at questioning Floridas perfection. And with all the positive feed back and nothing negative down come the northerners.
Without all those transplants Florida would be a bug infested swamp with beaches around the perimeter. And without air conditioning many would prefer shorter summers further north.

Yeah, what the others have said. Florida would probably still be more like a "southern" state, more like Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi, etc.

You're right nobody in Florida would definitely constitute paradise.
