Technically, we're above the tropic of cancer, so we're not per say in the tropics, however, I believe due to the gulf stream running South-North and southerly winds from the Caribbean half of FL may fit the profile of a tropical place. South FL and the Keys are definitely tropical for me. Also, look up Flower Gardens(it's one pristine coral reef system 2 hrs south of the Texas shore, in the Gulf. It's practically right across from Tampa. In addition, we have the Middle Grounds right across from Spring Hill(look them up too, they harbor 23 species of stony corals; those don't survive in cold water).

The rule of thumb for me is, if you see coral in the sea, you're in a tropical environment.

Fla is a mix of up nawth and a foreign country

No reason to make suggestions, it can't get much worse as far as that aspect.

Jobs that pay a decent wage! For all of you that hate unions take a look at wages, benefits, pensions where unions are welcomed.

Floridians are so nice till you question a price or a behavior then they get frazzled beyond belief.
Who are these Floridians you speak of?

Sounds like you live in a very heavy transplanted, keeping up with the Jones' type-community. We don't have our kids in private school, live in a modest house and clean up after ourselves.

There is a real FL for everyone. Panhandle for the deep south, central fl for the moderates, south fl for the northerners and liberals.

There is a reason why FL is such a swing state

Yup, I'm all for it too, until the places start to change and become very different.
