White Castle and Grand Union were in Florida. We used to have Grand Union in New Jersey, but they closed about 6 years ago.

Pot smuggling. From what I've read it's become pot growing and people smuggling.

Oh yea Eastern Airlines. They use to have these open houses and you could go through the hanger and on the planes sit in the cockpits it was great. Then again at the Kennedy Space Center they use to go on the runway.

I just remembered another one Service Merchandise and Best, I think that was the name, it was a catalog store just like Service you would write the number on the card and pay then go over to a conveyor belt to pick the item up.

The thing I always tell people is how there are less shopping options in malls today. Ever been to Dadeland? It had everything including an auto parts and grocery store. Now it's just shoes, clothes, jewelry and mediocre food. Also interesting is how we lost Pan Am and Eastern air lines. But the point is that we have lost all the locally grown businesses, to be replaced by chains. I don't even think Burger King is locally owned anymore.

Outback is headquartered in Tampa, if that's any consolation.

I took my usual Sunday drive and was amazed that the Royal Castle on 27'th avenue and 79'th street is still there!! Same anemic greasy burgers, but somehow tasty. Amazing that in such a dumpy area the old relic survives. I remember that in the 80's there was one downtown as well.
