A week in November and a week in March seems to work great for us.

Extended day forecast- 7 days of no sun or blue sky what so ever. Right now it is snowing so hard I can't see the trees in the field.

I need to take vacation for the entire months of January, February, March, and April.

I live in Wyoming and we have had some mornings of -25. It's usually around 0 to 10 degrees when I wake up in the morning and then maybe between 20*F- 40*F during the day. In order to take a walk outside I have to skip over patches of ice so I don't slip and break my neck. Everything is brown and white right now. Many of our summer days are in the high 80's to low nineties and very dry. No matter how much lotion I put on, I'm itchy. We get very little rain- it's just dry and hot.

So when I have to take my Mother-in-law to a medical specialist, and the closest decent medical facility is 2.5 hours away,(heck it's where our closest mall is too) it can be frustrating in the winter. Took her last month and we were at -28 in some spots on the way and all I could think of was how awful it would be if I got a flat tire. That's when I wish I was in FL for sure. I miss green and lush so much.

It's taking every ounce of willpower I have to not hop in the car and drive south until I am out of snow. We aren't getting hit anymore, just like 1-3 inches everyday. Not enough to delay or cancel, just enough to make me miserable.

I'm trying to be positive, during the afternoons its getting close to 40. Extended forecast shows all highs over 25, one day we even have a forecasted high of 40F and some sunshine. We haven't had any sun at all since Tuesday. Vampires would love it here.

I just know one day some gloomy winter morning I am going to come up missing. My family will know enough to start the search for me south of the Mason Dixon, probably somewhere in Florida.

It is undeniable that as people get older, they feel the cold more. That has certainly been the case with me. I have long planned on retiring in Colorado, but if I get much more sensitive to cold I may have to reconsider.

Jeeze, I thought it was cold when I woke up to 47f this morning. I sure hated the winters in NYC. The thawing of the snow in the day and then the return to the freezing temperatures over night made the sidewalks and cross walks skating rinks. I hope to never again have to step into a corner slush puddle in Manhattan that turns out to be a 6" deep hole. The cold slushy ice pouring into my shoe would usually cause me to cuss out loud.

On the other hand, I have a sister in northern Maine (Houlton) and to them winter is not usually a problem.
They've been up there over 35 years and could not stand the tropical environment here.

To each his own, but for those who have had enough of long cold winters, FL certainly be on my list of a new place to live.

Keep in mind, you may find the long hot summers a bit much until you acclimate. Very hot and humid. Tropical.
