One warning for you: It's not as bad as it was after the storms of 2004-05, but you may run into condo or townhome complexes that seem very cheap on the surface, but it turns out that units are priced low because their owners are trying to sell quickly and avoid having to pay $25K or more in special assessments for repairs to the complex as a whole.

I was just thinking about something that happened to me many years ago when I was thinking of buying some land in PEI and found out I wasn't allowed as a non resident. I started wondering about Canadians owning property in the US. Seems it's mostly taxes and length of stay issues.

Wow, so who ends up paying the special assessments for repairs and how does that work?

You can still buy a decent single family home in the Ocala area for $50-60k. A few areas around Ocala may not be the best, but most areas on the western and southwestern side are decent. Look at Marion Oaks. Check Realtor.com and search zip 34473 for example.

Just about all mobile homes in parks in the $40-$50 range are in lot lease parks, usually a single wide. Monthly rent is usually in the $450-$600 range. $70,000 is low ball for a unit in a 'co-op' park with monthly maint. in the $80-$180 a month range.
You can but a co-op in an apartment complex for $50,000 but it will be old, have $400 a month maint fee and not in the best area of twn.

With $50,000 you can get a single wide trailer in a trashy mobile home park and have meth users on both sides and across.
