The Panhandle and the rest of FL are indeed very different. I lived in South Florida for most of my life, but went to college in the panhandle so I felt like I had the best of both worlds. I loved the different feel and culture, and even the weather, in the panhandle. I found that people were more laid back and I enjoyed hearing southern accents. I would go back in a minute!

I can't speak for the rest of Florida, but I've never really thought of the panhandle as typical Florida.

Prior to moving to Destin from Central Florida, I thought that the Panhandle was much cooler, had a longer 'winter' and was probably more like Southern Alabama, than Florida. Unfortunately, I was right!

I don't know about people else where, But here in Central Florida where I live the Panhandle is never really mentioned. If it is people are 90% of the time referring to Tallahassee.

I love the FL Panhandle. It's a standstill of what the rest of Florida used to be. My wife and I are looking to relocate up there from south FL.
