No. Florida does not have a personal property (tangible property) tax on vehicles, trailers and vessels.

You are required to register your vehicle and have a drivers license in the state you claim permanent residence in, even if you own property in another state. There are some exceptions, but I doubt any of them apply to you. The reason is to stop people from skirting tax requirements like you are trying to do...

Holy Bananas we moved here in June and were blown away by the cost to register two SUV's in FL. Total for us with Vanity Plates was over $900 for the two trucks. Our auto insurance however went down 50% and annual fees will be 50% less than what we are used to.

Good Luck.

It is expensive the first time you register coming from out of State, you get charged an additional 200.00 for the privilege and then after that the fees are much smaller. It is a great birthday gift each year to have to renew on your birthday.. The good thing is you can re new for two years and forget about it for 24 months.

Hey, I hope you can help me here, I'm new to the US and getting my license within the week, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do as far as registering a car. I'm buying from a private seller. So what do I need? Property title, driver's license? And if you know an approximate cost of it I'll be very grateful.

Check out: www.flhsmv.gov/fees/
It will give you all the info you need.

Don't forget to take the bill of sale along. You will need it if you have owned the vehicle less than six months.

I think registration costs have dropped recently. The thing that bothers me is $25 for an address change on my license, the registration is only around $38 a year for my car. And it's not like they have to take another picture or extend the expiration date either.

If you haven't owned the car for six months, you will pay sales tax on it.

But, you do get a credit for the tax already paid in the state you bought it.

Florida resident purchased their first car. What is the cost to register the used car in their name?
