Theres a very big Jewish community in Miami Beach. Actually I think thats where they mainly live, on the beach, not so much in the burbs. And thats not necessarily a 'rich' area. You can find a place if your budget is 1500 a month. I dont know about those other Florida cities.

jessemh431,

I HONESTLY can not say that the area up there is a bunch of bible thumpig holly rollers, that is not what I have ever seen.

You can contact :
Pensacola Jewish Federation
800 N Palafox St
Pensacola, FL 32501
Phone: (850) 434-7992

I am sure that they can even give you some great advice on the area.

I was just throwing some options out there, but after researching a bit more, it seems as though Pensacola may be too small for me, coming from LA.

Are there any blue cities mixed into this sea of red in the florida?

So far, it seems like Tampa and Miami Beach are my best choices. Do you think I could live in a nice are in those cities for 1500?

Is that $1500 for rent? If so, yes, you can.

My cousin lives in Miami and his rent is not that high.

Here is a list that gives you detailed info on each city in the list.

Wow. Thank you so much. That is a great link.

So, by looking at that, it seems like the Tampa/St. Pete area, Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami-Dade are my best options. Of those, which do you think I should check out?

Broward and Palm Beach County, without question (north of Miami, Broward is home to Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach is home to West Palm Beach). Among the 10 most Jewish counties in the entire nation. Palm Beach County is about 15% Jewish and Broward is about 13% Jewish. Let's put it this way, unless you are moving from Brooklyn or Long Island, there is probably more Jewish presence here than where you are coming from.

From what the person said about the church in Pensacola, it looks like that is out for me. I know there is a great Jewish presence in the Miami suburbs, but those areas are mostly very rich and family friendly, right?

If I was younger I would try Miami jessemh. Thats where I should have gone 24yrs ago instead of Naples, Fl. I've been to Miami not to live. Now what I have seen on home seller programs TV. about the Miami area are the art deco apts.. When I'm looking for places of worship. I also look for temples or synagogues. Now my youngest son is in Albuquerque NM and has a few selections. Even one in Las Cruces. He did some scouting for mom. E-mail Miami Jewish temple/synagogue directory and YES it's very important to look for Jewish presence. Have a mile high piece of cream pie at Wolfie's Miami. I can still remember the chilled silver buckets of kosher dills on each table.

I read a few posters debating the religious thing in Pensacola. I will tell you our experiences there from 1999-2000. We bought a house near the Naval Air Station and were looking to turn a closed down carpet store into a fitness club.

Right down the street was the Christian College. The real estate agent and the owner of the closed store both asked us what our religion was. I asked why and they said that to succeed in a customer service business here we need to be involved in the Christian community for positive word of mouth.

I saw kids from the college handing out literature on a daily basis. I saw three guys carrying wooden crosses over the causeway to the beach. Sometimes they would be in the middle preaching.

We have lived all over the US, including the bible belt, but felt very strange in Pensacola. At least 25 times in our year there we were asked about our religious preferences by people we barely knew.

The OP asked about blue areas in Florida. Go with Palm Beach County without a doubt. Jupiter, Jupiter Farms, Palm Beach Gardens, suburban West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton are all very tolerant and progressive in their thinking.

Well, I am currently in college, but once I graduate, I would like to move around the country for a while and experience new places, maybe even decide where I want to live for the rest of my life.

I want to try living in Florida, but can't decide the best place for me.

Miami seems like the most sensible answer since it's the most similar to LA, but I've heard very negative stuff about crime and how the Cubans are much different than Mexicans and it would be difficult to transisiton after being around the Mexicans. Also, is there tons of crime there? I have a friend from there and he said it's not good to live in downtown...you should live in Miami Beach. Is that true?

Tampa seems to be the city that people most often cross with LA. When posting on the LA forum, many people can't decide between LA and Tampa. Why is that? I don't think it's for me though, because I've heard that it is more humid on the Gulf side than the Atlantic side, and the Atlantic side is already like a bajillion times more humid than SoCal. Also, I watched something on the weather channel about how if a hurricane hit directly on Tampa almost everyone would die and there would be no Tampa left because it is so flat the water would cover it.

Orlando. Don't even waste your time telling me about it. I'm not moving to Mickey Land.

Jacksonville is currently my favorite option. I've heard that it's not as humid, the weather isn't as hot as South FL, and its not as crime ridden as Miami.

Pensacola, don't know much about it, just that its got a lot of military people, but I don't even know if that is true.

I will be young so I want somewhere fun, but I'm not a big partyer, so I don't need somewhere where i can go partying every night. I will probably be able to afford 1000-1500 for rent for a studio or 1bed.

Any other suggestions of places I should check out? Maybe some suburbs of larger cities?

As you can tell, I need a lot help deciding where I want to live for maybe a year or so.

Thanks for any help in advance.
I believe the first question that you need to answer is what is going to be your profession/trait? Is very difficult to decide on a location if we don't know if your future profession is on demand.

Think about the folllowing and provide feedback:

What is my future job?

Long term stay or short term (24 months or less):

Distance to beach or inland:

Driving distance to work from residence:

Entertainment (after work):

This is the time to start researching your future home. Select at least 3 locations and evaluate them. As a fellow member mentioned before, you got to visit the location and get a feel if this is for you. Again having a secure job should be at the top of the list.
