I'm relocating to FL and want to be immersed as much as possible in Cuban culture, music, dance, etc. I'm wondering if Tampa or Miami is a better choice. I know MIami might have more Cuba, but for lifestyle and overall good living, I'm wondering also about Tampa.

Any input is appreciated.

I want to study and master my Cuban Spanish, study music, dance and work with communities.

wow I'm surprised most people outside of Miami look down on Cubans. without a doubt Miami is a much better pick if you are trying to get immersed into Cuban culture, language, and music. 34% of all people who live in Miami-Dade county are Cuban forming a plurality(no nationality has a majority in Miami-Dade) compare that to Tampa's total Hispanic population being a measly 9%. as for safety concerns, Miami's Crime Problem is way over Blown as long as you stay away from the ghettos you will be fine,I must warn you though the the cost of living in Miami is not cheap and Tampa is certainly much cheaper than Miami. But if you really wan to learn Cuban Spanish, culture, music, food, etc than you'll come to Miami. I hope I was a Help hope it goes well with you which ever you choose.

There are more Cubans in Miami, but the cost of living can be higher. There is a strong Cuban core here in Tampa, but since it's a smaller community it might be more difficult to immerse yourself.

If you live in Miami you will have to know at least a little spanish to get by. I'm assuming you do if you want to be around Cuban culture.

Miami = More Cubans, more money, more high speed
Tampa = Less Cubans, less money, more laid back

I would think the best immersion would be in Cuba. Cubans in Florida are Cuban Americans, no?

hahaha that's rich. Cubans thinking of themselves as Americans now that's something I haven't heard before. No but seriously once u see all the Cuban flags u'll c where there aligance lies. it's to the old Cuban republic that existed before Fidel took over. they just view there time in the USA as a temporary stay and will go back after communism collapses .

Tampa's Cuban population, is older than Miami's. the overall number of Cubans doesn't compare to Miami's.
if you moved to West Tampa, it's safe, its cheap, and you could probably go months without having to speak English. Tampa also has Ybor, which is the original Cuban settlement.
