We have many restaurants with patios here that don't allow smoking on the patios (they can allow smoking - but they're not required to). Robyn

Here in Ontario the law is very simple......... No smoking in ANY work place. That covers offices, bars, schools, police stations, and any place where some body WORKS. No exceptions.

Obviously, it is a Province wide ban, that covers every part of the second largest Province in Canada. And, the same or similar laws are in force right across Canada. As a result smoking in Canada is socially unacceptable now. Only about 12 percent of our citizens smoke tobacco, and that figure is dropping every year. Many Doctors here won`t accept new patients who smoke.

This law avoids the stupid arguments about..... Can I smoke on the patio at the local bar. Is somebody working out there........... Yes, the waiters and the bouncers, then no you can`t smoke there.

I hate to say it, but Florida sure seems to be a backward society.

Gosh - I was in Toronto last month. Stayed at the Park Hyatt. Just about everyone was smoking on the roof bar at that hotel (people would leave indoor functions to order a drink and smoke a cigarette). It seems your laws are similar to ours here (because I don't think the Park Hyatt would be doing anything illegal).

So get off your high horse. Robyn

Toronto.

So you are saying; up until the point smoking was banned in Ontario, Ontario was a backwards place?

I don't advocate smoking. But how many of our moms smoked and drank while pregnant at their bridge parties and here we are, baby boomers...living longer than any generation. Must be due to modern science, huh?

And health care in the US is far removed from health care in Canada, eh?

What is wrong with you people? You want to ban dogs, kids, smokers, republicans, democrats and anyone from every place you think is "yours." Every establishment you frequent has the right to deny service to you if you throw a fit while objecting to something that's not suitable to you, which most of you radicals do.

You don't want to be in a bar that allows smoking, don't go there. It's pretty simple.

I actually looked up the Ontario law - and it's very similar to the law in Florida. It

[p]rohibit[s] smoking on patios that have food and beverage service if they are either partially or completely covered by a roof...

That same modern science tells you being exposed to second hand smoke promotes cancer and breathing problems. Selectively believing in modern science?

Wait a minute. I go to a bar to literally poison myself with a serious drug that kills thousands every year and people are griping about smoking?? Really what has this world come to. It's not like we're suggesting that teachers should be able to light up while teaching your kids...or should they.
