My husband and I will be relocating to Florida within the next 6 months. My husband will be retiring, myself, I am a nurse. Will secure a job before we make the move. We are ready for a change in weather, scenary and overall living pace.(currently live in Ohio) We are ready to enjoy a slower pace of life. We love hot weather, the beach, outdoor activities (ex. sitting listening to music sipping a cold adult beverage, kayaking, wanna try paddleboarding, my husband dives and is a runner) enjoy warm calm water , soft clean sand, art show's and festivals). We have explored Florida for the last 2 1/2 yrs to decide where we would like to live. We have narrowed it down to SWFL area. Would like some input from those who live in these area's. We are looking to purchase a house/condo in the 100,000 - 140,000 price range. It's just the two of us & our two mini dachshunds. 2 bedroom/2bath is all we need. Our 24 yr old daughter, my 64 yr old mother will be moving with us (into their own home's). Which are would be best for this scenario and why?

Thank you everyone for your input, help and information. I have learned so much already from all of you.

I've heard that Sarasota is better for these activities. It has more to do, and better beaches. The beaches around Naples seem to have murky (albeit warmer) waters, compared to the clear waters around Sarasota (Siesta Key Beach). Another thing to consider, though, is the weather. Sarasota is a bit cooler in winter than Naples, but not bad at all. Naples has a more tropical feel, but from my understanding, is really just a place for snowbirds and retirees, with not much to do besides the beach and golf. I would choose Sarasota.

Actually that's wrong. It has every bit as much to do as Sarasota with arguably better restaurants and shopping, yet with a smaller population. GoNaples.com: Local Naples, Florida things to do, movies, music, dining, nightlife, entertainment and tourist activities.
