How do you know a persons education level and/or that they are slackers. Obesity by the way is a national problem.

Where are the people you list? Probably out there enjoying life in Florida. I don't think there is a particular venue where the people you are looking for are at.

Florida is in the southern part of the U.S. long known for its laid back attitude and slower pace of life.

I did the NYC thing. I grew up there and practiced my first career there. I no longer wanted an urban life style. Thus FL is fine for me. Maybe you need a more urban atmosphere in a larger city, something with a faster pace.

However, I travel often for work...all over the US and cannot help but notice that FL does indeed have more uneducated, obese, slacker types. Where do the young professionals hang out in Florida? Where are the go-getters? The innovators? The entrepreneurs? The educated? Certainly not in fort lauderdale lol! Or Orlando, or Tampa...or Jacksonville...or even Miami.

When I visit DC and Boston and NYC--there's more of a cosmopolitan outlook on life with people. More worldly, more invigortaing. FL just seems so ho-hum. Low rates of bachelor's degrees, high unemployment, kinda of a crap jobn market, tons of sexual predators (definitely disproportionately higher in FL, lets be real here)...it's just disappointing I guess.

Most people who go to college tend to be book smart, not necessarily common sense or practical smart.

I really don't see too many obese people here either, compared to Oregon and Wisconsin, where I have also lived for many years. And really, even tho a city like Portland is all what you're looking for in terms of educated people, you travel 30 miles outside the city and then it's right back to redneck methville.

Florida has tons of dirtbags and miscreants. I've never seen anything like it anywhere I've lived.

They're in Palm Beach - the wealthiest zip code in the country.

And Vero Beach with the 4th largest concentration of wealthy households in US and highest number of retired Fortune 500 CEOs.

You're being facetious right? Comparing the STATE to the three most "cosmopolitan" cities in the country. One is the most famous city in the world. One is the capital of the bastion of American higher education. And one is the center of America's political system with the most powerful people in the world.

You're also forgetting the inception of Florida. Americans started living here in the mid 1800's and it was considered pioneering. In the early to mid 1800's Half the population were disenfranchised African Americans and the Native American population was still huge and Andrew Jackson even was the one to "get rid" of them. There were only 1000 freed men to 39,00 slaves!

In 1900 most of the population lived within 50 miles of the Ga border and 44% of the population were disfranchised African Americans (200,000) living under civil rights suppression...of whom 50,000 quickly migrated North for a better life.

The land boom of the 1920s didn't last that long and Miami was destroyed in a hurricane in 1926.

Things were a bit "unstable" here for quite a while.

Did the go-getters? The innovators? The entrepreneurs? The educated? even invest in Florida? Ever? I forget all the history but there weren't even real schools here until late.

People have been living in those three "cities" especially Boston and building power and empires since the 1600s.

Take it up with Bloomberg:

America

Also why would you conflate some housing prices with the wealth of a zip? You realize that Palm Beach has been the home of America's most successful entrepreneurs from 100 years ago, and they normally have several homes splitting the year depending on the season. Like the Fisher family from Grosse Pointe, the Kennedys etc. Have you seen the Kennedy estate? It was a dump, got painted once every 15 years or so if that.
LOL

I've traveled in my life, too. Have you seen Bentonville Arkansas?

BTW Forbes list of the wealthiest 400 Americans had 32 Floridians.

Forbes wealthiest billionaires IN THE WORLD list included 20 PALM BEACHERS, all full time or large part of the time. David and William Koch are # 18 and 310. David Koch is #1 on the island.
