We use county water for our home and to irrigate our lawn, but have been thinking about having an irrigation well installed to reduce our county water bill. Our neighbor has an irrigation well that's about 130 feet deep and the in-law's, not far from our home have an irrigation well that's about 320 feet deep. Both well water irrigation systems smell like sewage when they are running. Is there a way to filter the water so that it doesn't smell like sewage?

What is the approximate cost to have an irrigation well installed? What's the cost to have the sewage smell filtered out of the irrigation water?

Are you by chance in Pinellas County ? ? ? I lived there 17 yrs and the smell is rotten eggs (Normally Sulfur), and if the sprinklers hit any part of the House or a Flat fence, watch out for the stains in your property...Looks like rust Colour. (Iron)

OP, do you know if you have reclaimed water in your area? It's maintained by your municipality's water department and is quite simply half-treated sewer water that costs a very small fraction of fully processed city water. The tip off is lavender/purple above-ground pipes that are fairly visible throughout the area if in fact it's used there.

It doesnt seem to me he's getting the half reclaimed water from his opening statement, or he really does not know what his County is giving him period.
