They're not entry level jobs, they're warehouse jobs. Like jobs in steel mills, factories and mines. Nothing entry level about such jobs, people do such jobs their entire lives.

In shift, Florida woos Amazon

Palm Beach County makes pitch for Amazon warehouse | RAPB Government Affairs News Feed

"Amazon has been criticized in recent years for the working conditions in its warehouses, and most of the jobs likely would be low paying. "
I worked at their warehouse during the recent christmas. I felt a bit guilty working there because the work i did was hilariously effortless, and I was getting around £600 ($1010) per week including overtime (10 hour days, 5 days).. after tax.. maybe its UK operations are better run. i would say my only peev with them was that the work was temporary and the £600 per week was never going to last. they dismiss temporary workers without much of warning when they run out of work.

Anytime you have large employers, UPS, Wal Mart, Target, Kroger, you are going to have a small percentage of the employees, and non employees, telling the world how the employer are slave drivers actually wanting 60 minutes of work in an hour. They will tell the world how lousy the pay is, how bad the company is, etc. However, they are the largest employers in the nation and only a small percentage are complaining about anything.

So, does anyone know what Amazon is really paying here in Florida? It'd be great if it was on a par with that sentry got in the UK. Not too shabby there for a warehouse job in Florida.

I can pretty much guarantee it won't be $1000 a week since overtime has been eliminated everywhere I know of as well as 30+ hours a week in a job like that where health insurance benefits become an employer requirement. Amazon chose Florida I'm sure because they know they'll find a workforce who in general will willingly work part-time for $10-$12 an hour and think they've struck in rich in comparison to what else is out there.

They may have to do more with many people's apathy and servility than the nature of the conditions.

Could it be that there isnt anyone here with first hand knowledge?

Perhaps the working American has gotten so unmotivated and they are happy with such jobs.

Could it be the 1.5 million of Walmarts workers cant do anything better for themselves and need the constant guidance and supervision at such jobs.

Guess we can throw in the 360k at target and the 25k at Kmart.
