All right Guys ,everyone is missing the point. After a couple encounters with Jelly Fish and seeing a fin or two that probably too close. Gator red eyes in Lake Monroe at dusk.

Sit on your beach chair with a adult beverage sitting by the pool over looking the ocean. See simple.

But seriously you must to yield to the Florida Fish and Game and Water management. If its posted don't go!

Agreed. Swimming in any lakes in Florida the gators and eve snakes are the concerns.
What beach? Down in South Florida we got the Crocodiles too, which prefer the brackish and salt water.

Barefoot beach in Naples. That same week we had a bear on the beach.

shallow or deep/open water?
The amoeba that has been in the news lately is found in fresh water areas that have mucky bottoms. Apparently, they live in the muck and get stirred up by swimmers sometimes. I've seen news coverage that said that using simple nose-plugs or a mask that covers the nose will keep them from getting into the nostrils which is also how they find their way to the brain. That is not to say that swimming in salt water will make you safe from micro-organism infection. There is a flesh rotting bacteria called Vibrio (or something like that) in saltwater that can enter thru an open wound. Fortunately, both types of infections are extremely rare but I have to admit that both always cross my mind whenever I'm fishing or swimming. It's like everything else, there are dangers everywhere but you have to weigh the odds, take precautions where possible, and live your life.

If you're down in S. FL, get a mask and snorkel and explore the ocean. It's a beautiful world down there.
