Hi dswinpa,
I don't think you can get housing that inexpensive in Dunedin, Florida, but I think you might want to at least get a taste of it before you move somewhere else! If you Google the phrase Dunedin Daily Photo, you will find lots of photos and information about the Dunedin area, including homes and housing, as well as shops, businesses, restaurants, the wonderful Downtown Dunedin area and lots more. Good luck in your move! I live and work in Dunedin and I think it's awesome!

You might be able to find a condo in a not quite new development for that price or even an older single family house. Nothing new that size sells that low anywhere in this state, especially in central Florida.

If you will consider an older house, you might have some luck in Brevard County, east of Orlando, around Cocoa, Melbourne, or Titusville. Maybe Lakeland, between Tampa and Orlando. Maybe Bradenton, south of Tampa.

The taxes and insurance you read about on here is no exaggeration. The insurance is the biggest issue. It is difficult to get insurance in the state. The big companies like Allstate and Nationwide operate a bit differently down here and they are dropping people right and left. You have to go with a smaller company with a higher rate or even the state's insurer, Citizen's, with the highest rates. I live in a 3 BR/2 BA house on the panhandle and I pay $3400 a year with a private insurer. It could go up to $6000 next year, I won't know until that letter arrives. I have a friend who lives in Dunedin and they pay $7000 with Citizen's. It depends on where you live and the type of house you have.
Wrong on all accounts.
You can get a brand new 3/2/2 in a new development for $130-$140
Insurance will be around $1200 and taxes around $2000
Look to Hernando County
