I'm in south Florida near Fort Lauderdale and a few years it got to around freezing, but only overnight and then around 50s during the day. I got by with a space heater and blankets.

Do you need to have central heat in Orlando or Tampa? I know in Jacksonville and west to the panhandle it gets very cold in the winter.

I am in that area and everybody I know has either a heat pump or electric heat element on the central air unit. January can get quit cold.

My parents have one of those old shotgun houses in Old Town in Key West and they don't have heat. My dad thinks it is cool to just pile on the clothes when the temps drop down in the 50s and 60s.

My mom doesn't think it is fun at all and will go check into a hotel.

Thank goodness this doesn't happen very often.

Funny thing that I noticed, above Central Florida, home listings are listed as 2500 heated square feet but below Central Florida it would be listed as 2500 under air.

I've lived in Sebastian for a few years and have never used the heat. I know it hasn't been very cold but my house has never gone below 64 degrees.

I'd say draw a line from West Palm Beach across to Fort Myers. Anything north of that you'll find the need for heating at least a couple of weeks per year.

Agreed! ... Draw another line at about Gainsville and figure that you will need heating there (Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Panhandle) a couple of months per year.

I would say you can use I-4 as your dividing line.

Tampa here. The past two Winters have been much hotter than normal and heat was not needed. I can remember one Winter I think four years ago where heat would have been very nice to have. The heat on my A/C unit broke so long ago I don't even know and I just never bothered to fix it because it is only needed MAYBE 10 days a year.

Here in Tampa we run the AC almost year round. I could personally do without heat altogether, but Hubby doesn't like to be cold so we typically run the heat a few nights each year. It is almost never needed during the day, and at night you could really get away with just an extra blanket during cold fronts.
