Hey guys OP here. This is my observation (hence the reason for the post). People will move here but keep their old license plates, stickers of where their from all over their car, talk to you about how great it was up there and overall just say things like "back home we did this and that....". Is your home not here now because you moved here? That part I never understood.

I notice alot of people from NY, Ohio, Detroit and Jersey will do this. Its like they want to reap the benefits of FL but have no pride in the state whatsoever because they aren't "from" here. Seriously bro where you came from was a ****hole or you wouldnt be here.

Secondly, FL and its culture, history and people are historically southern, deal with it.

I think alot of people from up north want to move to FL so the ones that actually do it think they are better than their norther counterparts (hence the bragging on CD forums).

I agree some people will do this and I am sure it can be annoying. On the other hand, having so many transplants here has brought so many different types of food, done the way they do it there, that I enjoy. So it is kinda a double edged sword I guess.

In a perfect world, people should not try to "change" the place they move to as much as "add" to it.

Uh... other than the fact that I agree people tend to use their hometowns as a standard of comparasion, I have to disagree about most of the rest. The places we come from are far removed from your description, and if northeners hadn't come down here and drained the fetid swamp, your description would be more fitting of your own situation. Now, about the history and culture, lets start in the 16th century with the Spanish and the Seminoles...

What about it? There are a few casinos you can go gamble at to show your respects for the tribes that once where

I think you're missing the point. The history and culture is rich and varied. Southern culture is just a part of it, and from 1-4 down, will soon be a footnote.

Yeah the tri-state area is pretty dumpy. Cairo Illinois is one of the worst places I've seen and Paducah Kentucky is a hole. Sikeston Missouri has Lambert's Cafe though, the home of "throwed rolls".

I was going to say all that! Thanks, HW.

I have a novelty BROOKLYN plate on my truck and a NY YANKEES baseball team decal on rear window.
Yeah, that was where I grew up. That's were I am from. I have never told anyone how great it was up there unless I am talking nostalgia, days long gone. The Brooklyn I grew up in no longer exists. Florida is and has been my home for over 25 years now and it will remain to be my home. Where I came from is irrelevant in my day to day life. Where I came from does not make me who I am or what I have accomplished. I've accomplished more here than I did there.

You are correct on the point that I came from a hell hole of a place or I wouldnt be here.
The quality of life where I came from became non-existent.

You will find people from the places you listed all over the U.S., not only in FL. FL is not for everybody. Living in the South East U.S. is not for everybody either. But out of all the places there are, I really do enjoy living in FL.

Have you ever heard the saying "Don't forget where you came from" ? Its a powerful statement.
It applies to life in general, not geographics.

Neither do I.
